Local Beach Towns on the Crystal Coast are facing similar concerns over pet ordinance violations. We need everyone’s help getting information out about this ongoing problem. Although the rules are posted at public accesses along Bogue Banks, the Town's and local officials have also worked with rental agencies to ensure visitors are provided information about the local rules. Complaints over dogs being allowed to run free, especially on the beach strand continue to be a growing concern for enforcement agencies. Police agencies will be focusing more and if necessary increasing enforcement efforts to ensure the ordinances concerning the leash law and clean-up are complied with. It is not our wish to issue a bunch of citations for those violating these ordinances, we would prefer voluntary compliance and ask all to respect others who enjoy and use our beaches. If the only way compliance can be obtained is through enforcement, agencies will do what they must. Please help us educate others.
Ordinances for each town are similar and all require animals to be controlled and on leashes when off the owners property and while on public property including our beaches. You can get copies of individual Town ordinances by contacting town hall or going to the towns websites.
