Town of Atlantic Beach Employment Application

The Town is currently accepting applications for the following position:

 

Planner /Code Enforcement Officer

Conducts technical, professional and administrative activities for the Town’s planning, development and zoning compliance. Perform responsible technical inspections work enforcing the Unified Development Ordinance; intermediate professional work in the administration of local ordinances with respect to zoning, subdivision, CAMA,  stormwater and floodplain management, and land use. Prepares agendas for and assists with facilitating the Zoning Board of Adjustment and Planning Board meetings; and all other related development and land use programs for the Town and a variety of assignments. Processes grant applications and does related work as required. Serves as technical advisor to the Town Manager, Council, Planning Director, Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, citizens committees, other boards and commissions, and the general public. Duties are performed under the administrative direction of the Planning Director.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four year degree in planning or a related field; Master’s degree preferred; and two to five years of experience in planning, zoning, and code enforcement; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS mapping. Have or ability to obtain certification by the NC Association of Zoning Officials and AICP preferred. Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply the NC General Statutes and planning/development law required. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, elected and appointed officials, state and local agencies and the general public.

The ideal candidate for this position has strong oral and written communication skills. The ideal candidate has the ability to manage multiple projects at once; is detail-oriented. Position requires some evening work outside of normal office hours.
